
Cheppuddira Ponnappa, was born in 1939 in Kirgoor to Sri Madaiah and Smt. Somavva. A man of great commitment and service, he dedicated his life to the welfare of his community through various leadership roles. From his early education in Kirgoor and Ponnampet to his impactful contributions in cooperative societies, education, and rural development, he played a key role in shaping the region.
As a prominent figure in local governance, he served twice as the President of the Kirgoor Gram Panchayat and the Kirgoor School Committee, leaving a lasting legacy through infrastructure development and social initiatives. His dedication extended to cooperative institutions, where he held directorial positions in organizations like VSSN Nalloor, APCMS Ponnampet, and twice as the President of the Town Cooperative Bank.
A strong advocate for community growth, he was the Founder President of Kirgoor Youth Sangha and played a significant role in preserving cultural and historical landmarks, including the installation of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Ponnampet. His religious & spiritual contributions were equally commendable & fostering community harmony. His generosity was evident in his land donations for public welfare projects, and his contributions earned him the prestigious ‘Rashtriya Vikas Ratna’ award for individual achievement in economic and social development.
He married Dharani from the Machimanda family and are blessed with one daughter and three sons. Known affectionately as ‘Meese Ponnu’ for his striking personality and signature moustache, he is not just a leader but a source of inspiration. His life is a testament to selfless service, dedication, and the spirit of Kodagu.
