About Us
Started in the year 1928, The Ponnampet Town Co-op Bank has come a long way. This Co-operative institution that has become one of a kind institution in Kodagu, started by business minded people during the British rule. The traders and planters residing in and around Ponnampet became members of this institution to help and uplift other traders irrespective of caste or creed. The total membership strength has become 2,273 and this shows the faith of the people towards this institution.In the year 1945, this financial institution was registered as Ponnampet Town Co-op Bank. Pandianda Chengappa who is considered as the father figure of Co-operative movement in Kodagu District was instrumental in encouraging the institution. People like Mathranda Subbaiah, Dr.Puthamane Nanamaiah, Cheriapanda Kushalappa, Ajjikuttira Thammaiah, Chendira Thammaiah, Adengada Machaiah, Katimada Appaiah and Issaq Saheb were the doyens without whom this Bank wouldn’t have reached this stage.Looking up the old records, Late Mathranda Subbaiah who had served in the Government Dept.served this institution as a President. Later on C.P.Kushalappa, A.S.Thammaiah, P.P.Bopaiah, M.E.Ebrahim, K.P.Kuttappa served as Presidents of this august institution and were instrumental in the growth of this bank.
